Hurricane Irma was a rare category5 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 185 MPH. This made Irma the strongest hurricane ever observed in the open Atlantic Ocean, and one of only 5 hurricanes with measured winds of 185 MPH or higher in the entire Atlantic basin.
Pier 66 Hotel suffered severe damage to its 384 room property. Roofing was blown off causing extensive water damage and almost 1/4 of all the rooms were destroyed.
